Westview opened in September 1967 - Canada's Centennial year. What else was going on that year?

"Ca-na-da", or "The Centennial Song"

Bobby GimbyBobby Gimby wrote this song in 1967 to celebrate Canada's centennial and Expo 67, and was commissioned by the Centennial Commission (a special Federal Government agency). The song was written in both of Canada's official languages, English and French.

CA-NA-DA
(One little two little three Canadians)
We love thee
(Now we are twenty million)
CA-NA-DA
(Four little five little six little Provinces)
Proud and free
(Now we are ten and the Territories sea to sea)
(Chorus):
North south east west
"Ca-na-da", or "The Centennial Song" - hear itThere'll be happy times,
Church Bells will ring, ring, ring
It's the hundredth anniversary of
Confederation
Ev'rybody sing together!
CA-NA-DA...
(Verse in French begins)
(Second Chorus)
Rah! Vive le Canada!
Three cheers Hip, Hip, Hooray!
Le centenaire,
That's the order of the day
Frère Jacques Frère Jacques
Merilly we roll along
Together all the way
(Repeat second chorus)

A Place to Stand
The documentary film A Place to Stand was produced and directed by Christopher Chapman for the Ontario Pavilion at Expo 67 in Montreal. The film premiered on April 28, 1967 in a 70mm print by Technicolor, on a screen 66 feet wide by 30 feet high, with six-channel stereo surround sound.

A Place to Stand was composed by Dolores Claman, with lyrics by Richard Morris.

Give us a place to stand
And a place to grow
Watch a portion of A Place to StandAnd call this land Ontario
A place to live.
For you and me
With hopes as high
As the tallest tree
Give us a land of lakes
and a land of snow
Listen to A Place to StandAnd we will build Ontario
A place to stand, a place to grow
Ontari-ari-ari-o !

From western hills,
To northern shores.
To Niagara Falls,
Where the waters roar.
Give us a land of peace,
Where the free winds blow.
And we will build Ontario
A place to stand, a place to grow
Ontari-ari-ari-o !

The North York Board of Education (NYBE) was the public school board for the former city of North York in Ontario, Canada.

In 1998, the provincial Government of Ontario passed legislation which amalgamated North York into the City of Toronto. As part of the amalgamation process, the NYBE ceased to exist. Today, administration of schools in North York is handled by the Toronto District School Board. The NYBE building was located at 5050 Yonge Street in the same complex as Mel Lastman Square, the former North York City Hall. This building now houses the Toronto District School Board offices.
